You know those moments when something from your memory just pops up, and suddenly you see life through different eyes? Stories do that for me. They're like...well, those strings of lights we hang up during celebrations, each bulb lighting a different corner of who we are.
I write under the name Emily; yes, a pen name. We all need our little mysteries, don't we?.. After four decades of navigating my way through this weird obstacle course that is life, I have collected many tales: some are mine, others were given by strangers who became friends over coffee and conversations that ran way too long. I am using these bits of life now to form fictions that hopefully makes you feel less alone in this beautiful, messy world of ours.
The thing about stories is that they're sneaky. You think you are reading another person's journey, then you read some truth about yourself. Ah, don't you just love that? It's those little "oh" moments I'm after in my fiction - those tiny bits that catch you off guard and stick with you like the lingering warmth of a good cup of tea.
Speaking of tea. I can very well imagine me telling you all these things in your favorite reading nook. Maybe you're curled up in that worn armchair by the window, or perhaps you're stealing a quiet moment during lunch break. Wherever you are, I hope my stories feel like a friend stopping by – the kind who knows when to talk, when to listen, and when to simply sit in comfortable silence.
